Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has condemned the recent closure of nine Serbian Post offices in Northern Kosovo, describing it as a deliberate attempt to incite conflict with the support of certain Western powers.

„Kurti’s behavior is an attempt to provoke a war. We do not want war; we want to preserve peace, but he is doing this deliberately, organized, and with the backing of some Western forces,“ Vučić commented on the actions taken by Kosovo’s government on Monday.

Expressing his deep concern, Vučić also criticized the European Union’s response to the incident, describing it as „shameful and insolent.“

The EU had urged the Kosovo government on Monday to reconsider its decision, labeling the closure of Serbian Post offices as a unilateral and uncoordinated move that violated telecommunications agreements made in 2015, which stipulated that postal services would be discussed at a later stage.

Despite this, the EU stated they are ready to address the issue in a new round of dialogue in Brussels and expect the parties to develop constructive ideas that could serve as the basis for solutions. However, from Vučić’s perspective, the EU’s statement was inadequate.

„They are calling us to talk again about Kurti’s unilateral actions, which are illegal. So, next time he kills 20 people, we will again go to discuss whether he could do it or not and what ideas they have to overcome it,“ Vučić remarked.

He criticized the EU for calling for dialogue regardless of the severity of Kurti’s actions, suggesting it always seeks to downplay the severity of actions taken against Serbia and its interests. Vučić specifically mentioned the 2015 telecommunications agreement, asserting it had been flagrantly violated and that certain EU members consistently soften positions that should be against Pristina and Kurti.

While Vučić did not reveal which EU members he was referring to, he declined to provide further details, fearing it could harm the interests of Serbia and its people. Nevertheless, he confirmed that he had a direct conversation with EU envoy Miroslav Lajčák and conveyed an „unequivocal message.“

„We’ll see what they do next – these insolent and ruthless gentlemen,“ Vučić concluded.

„Slightly harsher reactions compared to the EU came late last night from the US Embassy in Pristina, as well as this morning from the German Ambassador Jörn Rohde.
