Kosovo Police uncovered a substantial cache of weapons and military equipment buried in three plastic barrels in a yard near a private residence in the heart of Zvečan. The discovery, confirmed by police, includes automatic rifles, grenades, ammunition, and military uniforms, all reportedly buried underground.
Authorities suspect the involvement of an individual believed to be linked to this stash and plan to question the person regarding this case, as well as last year’s incident in Banjska.
Discovery Based on a Tip-off
Police reported acting on a tip-off, which led them to the location. Initial searches revealed one barrel, followed by two more unearthed with assistance from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit.
“Investigators from the RDP Mitrovica North Unit discovered the first barrel. Further exploration by the Explosives Handling Unit led to the discovery of two additional barrels containing ammunition, AK-47 rifles, and hand grenades,” police stated.
Details of the Seized Items
The police inventory of seized items includes:
Weapons and Ammunition: 2 AK-47 automatic rifles, 6 loaded magazines for AK-47s, 1 empty magazine, 156 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 179 rounds of M48 ammunition, 4 M75 hand grenades.
Military Equipment: 3 pairs of camouflage pants, 4 military jackets, 2 tactical vests, 2 gas masks, 2 military bags, 5 military belts, 1 black T-shirt, 1 bulletproof vest with plates.
Investigation Ongoing
No arrests have been made as of today. However, police have identified a person of interest believed to be connected to the weapons stash.
“The individual is of interest to the police and will be questioned in connection with this case and the Banjska incident,” the statement added.
