Representatives of the Serbian Democracy Party held a press conference this morning at the party’s headquarters in North Mitrovica, unveiling their 13-member candidate list for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for February 9.
Aleksandar Arsenijević, a young politician and the party leader, outlined its vision for Kosovo Serbs, emphasizing their commitment to being a „voice of freedom.“
„What we haven’t had in recent years, and what Pristina has capitalized on, is silence in parliament and the inaction of Serbian MPs,“ Arsenijević stated.
Candidate List and Program Highlights
Stefan Veljković, Vice President of the Serbian Democracy, formally introduced the candidates and party’s election program, pledging to support citizens whose freedoms—be it expression, protest, movement, or other individual rights—are under threat.
„We will stand with our people, not through empty statements but by offering tangible legal, logistical, and other forms of support,“ Veljković said.
The program includes maintaining records of interethnic incidents and conflicts involving the Kosovo Police, citing historical grievances in northern Kosovo.
„We will demand the dissolution of all special police unit bases in the north and the return of land seized from Serbian households. Moreover, we will pressure the government to establish the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities (ASM) to ensure autonomy, greater security, and economic development,“ Veljković added.
Grassroot Efforts and Financial Challenges
Arsenijević expressed confidence in the candidate team, describing them as a group of „dedicated, family-oriented individuals committed to staying here.“
Highlighting the party’s independence, Arsenijević dismissed allegations of external influence, saying: „Many are asking whether we have anyone’s support—in this case, specifically from Belgrade, Radoičić, Kurti, the opposition in Belgrade, or foreign embassies.“
„We say – no. We are a grassroots party born in challenging times. People need to understand that with courage, it’s possible to grow even in circumstances like these,“ he asserted.
Discussing the financial aspects of their campaign, Arsenijević revealed that funding relies on creative measures, including personal loans and contributions from party members.
„For this campaign, we’ve taken out loans with several guarantors within our ranks. Additionally, our 150 members contribute €20 each annually. Beyond the campaign, our operations remain modest in cost,“ he said.
