The Self-Determination Movement (LVV) has once again nominated Albin Kurti as its candidate for prime minister in Kosovo’s upcoming snap parliamentary elections, scheduled for December 28. The announcement was made through a video released from the party’s General Council meeting.
Former Assembly speaker Glauk Konjufca praised Kurti as “the most successful and most elected prime minister in the history of Kosovo’s parliamentary democracy,” describing him as a leader of “societal and democratic transformation.”
Konjufca also accused opposition parties of attempting to “block Kosovo in order to weaken Kurti.”

Following his nomination, Kurti insisted that it was not his responsibility that Kosovo is heading to elections again. Reflecting on his time in office, he emphasized the challenges his government faced — from global crises to tensions in the north of Kosovo.
He said the crisis in the north was “triggered by the actions of Serbia’s state apparatus,” which, according to him, “significantly affected the work of the government.”
Kurti also highlighted what he views as his cabinet’s achievements and outlined the priorities he would pursue if re-elected.
Why Kosovo Is Heading to New Elections
President Vjosa Osmani dissolved the Assembly on November 20 and scheduled snap elections for late December after the latest effort to form a government failed.
LVV’s nominee for prime minister, Glauk Konjufca, did not secure the required majority — 56 MPs voted in favor, 53 against, while four abstained, falling short of the 61-vote threshold.
This marks the second unsuccessful attempt to confirm a new government. Earlier, outgoing Prime Minister Kurti also failed to win parliamentary support for his proposed “Kurti 3” cabinet.
