The Deputy Ombudsman of Kosovo and representatives of the Serb community in Kosovo, who were criticized by the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo for meeting with the EU envoy for dialogue this week in Brussels, spoke to the ambassadors in Pristina today, namely, representatives of the Quint member states and the head of the EU Office in Kosovo.

Members of the NCEU Working Group for Chapter 35, and a delegation of Serbs from Kosovo traveled to Brussels this week, where they met with the EU envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, and other European officials, in order to better acquaint them with the challenges the Kosovo Serbian community faces.

Lajčak then said on the social network “X“ that the meeting was very useful.

In the meantime, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, reacted, criticizing Lajčak, as well as the delegation that met with him, stating that they are NGOs from Kosovo that “actively and openly advocate against the integration of Serbs into Kosovo’s institutions.“

The same message was disseminated separately by Self-Determination, which published Bislimi’s comments on social media networks through an infographic, alleging that Lajčak applied an “unfair“ and “non-neutral“ approach to the normalization process.

The NCEU called on the Kosovo government, the EU and Quint to condemn Bislimi’s move, arguing that the dialogue should not be seen as a rivalry between two enemies, but as a process that should enable lasting peace. The director of one of the criticized NGOs the „New Social Initiative“ organization, Jovana Radosavljević, who participated in the aforementioned meeting, said that integration must be sustainable, and not the dominance of the majority over the minority.

The rapporteur of the European Parliament for Kosovo, Viola von Kramon, came to their defense yesterday, telling Bislimi that the EU is its own master, and does not need anyone telling its officials with whom and at what time they can meet. She also pointed out that she is concerned that such statements place a target on NGOs.

The ambassadors of the Quint member countries met with the same delegation today in Pristina, as announced by the German ambassador, Jorn Rohde.

He stated that they are trusted partners in shared efforts to advance human rights and interethnic relations in Kosovo.

“Quint and EU Ambassadors appreciated the opportunity to meet today with the Deputy Ombudsperson and representatives of the Kosovo Serb community – all of whom are trusted partners in our shared efforts to advance human rights and interethnic relations in Kosovo.”
