Minister of the Environment and Spatial Planning, Albena Reshitaj, has offered her resignation to the Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj on Wednesday. Express reported that Reshitaj’s resignation came after media reports on disagreements within her party, the AKR, headed by Behgjet Pacolli who is the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in Haradinaj’s Government. Reshitaj is the Vice President of AKR.
„For personal reasons, I have just resigned as Minister of the Environment and Spatial Planning,“ Reshitaj wrote on her Facebook page.
The Prime Minister Haradinaj, in a statement, said that he accepted Reshitaj’s resignation.
„In her letter she justified her action by citing personal reasons, which I respect,“ Haradinaj wrote on Facebook.
Albena Reshitaj, as a Minister from the AKR, was appointed last September, when the government of Ramush Haradinaj was formed.
Express reports that Reshitaj was one of the two female ministers in Haradinaj’s cabinet and that civil society organisations and NGOs advocating for the rights of women have criticised Haradinaj for not respecting gender balance in his cabinet.
The other woman minister in Haradinaj’s Government is Dhurata Hoxha who heads the Ministry of European Integration.
