A Kosovo citizen identified by the initials L.H. has been ordered into 30-day custody by the Higher Court in Belgrade on suspicion of organizing and inciting genocide and war crimes, the court confirmed for KoSSev.

“In a ruling dated July 24, 2025, the pre-trial judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade, War Crimes Department, ordered the detention of the defendant L.H., which may last for up to 30 days,” the court said in a written statement.

The court cited flight risk as the reason for the detention.

L.H. is suspected of „organizing and inciting the commission of genocide and war crimes,“ the statement reads.

The court responded to KoSSev following media reports from Pristina earlier today, stating that a Kosovo Albanian arrested in the central Serbian town of Svilajnac had been remanded in custody.

Arrest conducted by Serbian security agencies

Although the court did not provide further details, the initials match those of a man originally from Pec who, according to several media outlets, was arrested on Tuesday in a joint operation carried out by Serbia’s Security Intelligence Agency (BIA), the Ministry of Interior’s War Crimes Investigation Service, and the War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office.

A video of the arrest, released by several Serbian outlets including Večernje novosti, identifies the suspect as a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

However, the Association of Former KLA Members has denied this, claiming that the man shown in the footage was never part of the organization.

Pristina seeking answers

Meanwhile, Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is attempting to obtain official information about the case through its liaison office in Belgrade. However, as of now, they report having received no confirmation of contact or case details.

Serbian authorities have not issued any official public statement regarding the arrest.
