The European Union Office in Kosovo has confirmed that one of its officials was stabbed in Djakovica, media outlet Koha reported today. The statement comes after initial reports emerged this morning that a foreign national wounded in the town on Tuesday night was an EU representative.
“We are shocked by reports that an EU official was stabbed in Djakovica,” the EU Office said in a written statement quoted by Koha.
No name or further personal details of the victim were disclosed.
Earlier this morning, Kosovo Police stated that a foreign national had sought medical assistance at the local health center in Djakovica after sustaining injuries caused by a sharp object.
Facebook pages from South Mitrovica – Mitropol and Jepi Ze – were the first to report that the injured man was a European Union official in Kosovo.
The online portal Sinjali also claimed that the victim is a 49-year-old with the initials S.I.Sh., allegedly enjoying diplomatic immunity.
