The acting Kosovo Minister of Foreign Affairs, Glauk Konjufca tweeted today that Serbia opened its borders to citizens of all countries in the region, but not to citizens of Kosovo. According to Konjufca, this proves Serbia’s „discriminatory and unequal attitude” towards the citizens of Kosovo.
The Serbian government announced yesterday that it had received a recommendation from the emergency team to open the borders with four countries in the region (Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina) on June 1st.
The acting Kosovo Minister of Foreign Affairs, Glauk Konjufca reacted to this news today, tweeting that this represents „Serbia’s discriminatory approach to Kosovo.“
“The Kosovo government condemns Serbia’s discriminatory and unequal regional approach to Kosovo. Serbia has opened its borders to citizens of all countries in the region, but not to citizens of Kosovo,” he tweeted.
According to him, this approach “proves once again that Serbia is not interested in normalizing relations with Kosovo.”
“The Republic of Kosovo will reciprocally respond to this obstacle of Serbia for the citizens of Kosovo,” he added.

Following an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the region, the Serbian government decided to close the borders with its neighbours. Serbia also closed the crossings towards Kosovo, and only ambulances and trucks transporting goods were allowed passage.
In early March, the Kosovo government decided to close all land crossings towards Kosovo as well, except for the citizens with Kosovo IDs. At that time, a measure of obligatory self-isolation for 14 days was introduced for all those who entered Kosovo; however, it was soon replaced by a measure of isolation in the quarantine zone in Pristina.
When Pristina will decide to open land crossings remains to be seen.
