After repeatedly calling for the vote of no confidence to Kurti’s government, the leader of the opposition Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, proposed the formation of a national unity government that would still include Vetevendosje, but without Kurti.
Ramush Haradinaj met with his party’s leadership on Wednesday, followed by a press conference, where he said that the situation in Kosovo is very serious.
Kurti’s government is following a „dangerous path“ that also endangers Kosovo’s wellbeing, Haradinaj told media.
This was the reason for his Alliance for the Future of Kosovo to decide on the installation of AAK’s structures to deal with the current crisis in Kosovo.
He also recalled the AAK initiative for a vote of no confidence against the Kosovo government.
„According to our belief, we do not have the possibility to go to the elections immediately. We also discussed the possible option of forming a government of national unity in which all political parties would be, including Self-Determination, i.e. a future government without Kurti until the next elections, which would return Kosovo to normal,“ Haradinaj said, reports Pristina’s Koha.
He claims that it is pointless for the Parliament to continue with its regular activities in light of the ongoing crisis.
„We will cooperate with the opposition, for a boycott in the parliament, but also with the possibility of protest,“ he said.
Kosovo is in „real danger“, warned Haradinaj, appealing to Prime Minister Albin Kurti and President Vjosa Osmani to consider the three demands of the EU.
Kosovo should not be on the list of countries punished by our allies, he said.
Referring to the crisis in the North of Kosovo, the opposition in Pristina accused the current government of violating relations with international partners for weeks.
Criticisms became more frequent after the introduction of temporary measures against Kosovo by the European Union, and due to the refusal of the Kosovo government to take steps to de-escalate the situation in the North proposed by Brussels.
Since then, the resignation of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, „the path of Kosovo without Kurti“, has been increasingly demanded.
At the same time, representatives of the largest opposition parties made a series of decisions related to the newly created situation, claiming to have already taken steps to mitigate it.
The PDK adopted a 10-point Declaration that foresees halting communication with the Kosovo Prime Minister and President, and demand early elections – both local in the North and national.
Yesterday, the president of the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdxiku, rallied opinion makers, journalists, CSOs to discuss the political situation in Kosovo, with special emphasis on relations with allies.
Throughout all of this, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, refused to accept calls to urgently deescalate the crisis through the 3-point EU plan, instead presenting his own.
He believes that the EU measures are unfair, and says that Kosovo cannot compromise „neither with the rule of law, nor with the country’s constitutionality.“
As a result, he announced that he will continue to implement his government’s program, adding that he hopes that the temporary measures of the European Union „will be short term“.
The European Union, on the other hand, says that the measures will be revoked as soon as the Kosovo government starts implementing the EU’s requirements for de-escalation.
