From some Belgrade media and tabloids, during this week, a new wave of dramatic warnings for Serbs in the north of Kosovo followed. The headlines are awash with war alerts, aggravated problems to which Serbia will face in November, and alleged speculation on a secret and final deal on Kosovo between world leaders.
„Serbs, the evil is being readied for us“, wrote Alo. Both, Alo and Informer then cried „The Zagreb-based media confirmed the darkest fear, Croats admitted to train Shiptars for Oluja (Storm) operation in the north of Kosovo“. The Srpski Telegraf revealed that NATO was preparing to repeat an action like the one in 1999, while Blic said that world leaders will end the Kosovo issue with a title „Final Offensive: Four World Leaders cut Kosovo Node.“
A bit of variety in headlines followed on Tuesday. Alo published an interview with the Hague convict Veselin Sljivancanin entitled „We Must Be Ready for a New War“. The Srpski Telegraf wrote about a secret deal on the Kosovo issue between Lavrov and Bolton, while Vecernje Novosti brightly published on the Serbian state helping Kosovo – a package for the renewal of Kosovo.
Another black tabloid wave hit the Serbian public on Wednesday. The Informer wrote about a possible war: „Serbia was pushed into a war in Kosovo“, while Vecernje Novosti and Srpski Telegraf anticipated Serbia’s difficult position on the Kosovo issue – „Three nooses around Serbia’ neck in November“, wrote Vecernje Novosti and „Vucic: Four Hells in November (Srpski Telegraf)“. Politika published on the front page, „Vucic: Serbs not to be part of the Kosovo army“.
Finally, Vecernje Novosti, today, wrote about a new incursion into North Mitrovica: „Albanians are preparing chaos, this is the scenario for Flag Day“.
„We are facing a very difficult month when it comes to Kosovo and Metohija,” said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic earlier this week. „I beg you as I do God, please do not do it, do not bring Serbia into a position with no exit, do not do it, I beg you as I do God, please, do as God, please do not bring Serbia into such a position as we cannot abandon our own people, we can not and will not do it“, pleading with western countries in front of the cameras.
