A billboard displaying photographs of honorary citizens of Zvecan, situated on the main road between Srbovac and Banjska, has been removed today.
The head of the Kosovo MIA, Xhelal Svecla, announced the news today. Svecla, along with the Minister of Administration and Local Self-Government, Elbert Krasniqi, attended the process of taking down the billboard.
The background of the billboard shows the image of the Zvecan fortress, the Zvecan municipality logo, and the inscription the Zvecan municipality and honorary citizens of the Zvecan municipality in Serbian.
A photograph of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who received the keys to this town in July 2021, was at the front and center of the billboard.
Below it were the photos of other honorary citizens:
The number one tennis player in the world, whose family originates from Zvecan, Novak Djoković; a recently deceased renowned colorectal surgeon and proctologist, also from Zvecan, Zoran Krivokapić; a Serbian diplomat born in the village of Rudine near Zvecan, Jugoslav Kostić; President of Russia Vladimir Putin; former head of the Kosovo Office, Marko Djurić; as well as the director of the KiM Assistance Committee, Momčilo Arlov.
The Kosovo Interior Minister expressed displeasure mostly over the photos of the Serbian and Russian presidents displayed on this billboard.
He alleged that they are figures of dictatorship and aggression.
„In Zvecan, illegal billboards with symbols and photos of dictators and aggressors, who are unacceptable in the Republic of Kosovo, were removed today. These billboards and pictures of fascists and aggressors like Vladimir Putin and opponents of our country will have no place in our country,“ he said.
He says that the only symbol of Serbia within Kosovo will be its Serbian embassy in Pristina.
At the same time, he reminded that Kosovo’s stance is clearly defined in terms of European values of Euro-Atlantic orientation.
