The Kosovo Animal Rights Foundation announced today that exactly one year has passed since it was discovered that a lion was illegally kept in a cage in a restaurant/resort in Gnjilane/Gjilan. The foundation accused the competent ministry of „not doing its job“.
„Although it was found that the lion was smuggled into Kosovo and confiscated earlier this year, the lion continues to remain locked up in the same place, hostage to the lack of effort from institutions,“ the organization said.
They stated that the organization „Four Paws“ offered to provide shelter for the lion in one of its rescue centers, noting that the competent ministry has so far failed to solve this issue.
„The Ministry of Economy and Environment is not doing its job to enable the transfer of the lion, despite the fact that we have tried several times to contact directly also the Minister, Mr. Blerim Kuci,“ the Animal Rights Foundation added.
They once again called on this ministry to engage seriously in this issue and enable the lion to be transferred as soon as possible.
