After the introduction of a 100% tax on all products from Serbia following the decision of the Kosovo Government, some Kacanik residents burned Serbian products last night while filming this event.
They say that they are meeting „the appeal for a boycott of Serbian products“, the Albeu.com news portal reported this morning.
„After an appeal to boycott Serbian products, some residents of Kacanik decided to burn all Serbian products. The action has started and is now under way,“ the online news media outlet quoted the video post inscription.
Market inspection started removing products that contained the inscription „Kosovo and Metohija“, „Kosovo UNMIK“ or „Kosovo Resolution 1244“ from stores throughout Kosovo.
In addition to this Kosovo police are removing Serbian vehicle license plates in the predominant Serbian villages of Ranilug and Ropotovo in Gnjilane region, RTK2 reported citing unofficial claims.
As one of the eyewitnesses claimed: „The police were removing Serbian license plates by saying – RKS license plates are not allowed in Serbia, the Serbian license plates cannot be in Kosovo either.“
In North Mitrovica local Serbs are faced with shortages of daily Belgrade papers and fresh milk products.
Shopkeepers warn of a deeper crisis should such trade restrictions continue.
„For the time being, we are still OK with milk products, we have not changed the price either, we are currently selling our stored milk supplies but it will eventually disappear at some point,“ a local store owner told us this morning.
The anxiety is visible among the newspaper sellers as well. They are worried about losing customers but also losing their jobs, as to a few of them this is their only income source.
Currently they are selling only weeklies, comics, and similar.
The Kosovo government adopted a decision yesterday, with a majority of votes, to increase the tax on imported goods from Serbia, which had already been increased by 10% earlier this week, to 100%. This measure was adopted just a day after Kosovo failed to enter INTERPOL for the fourth time.
