Albanians from the north of Kosovo against the exchange of territories

Albanians living in the northern part of Kosovo strongly oppose the potential exchange of territory with Serbia. They point out that the largest natural resources of Kosovo are in the northern part. They assess the current situation as calm and demand greater involvement of Kosovo institutions in this part, reports Radio Kosova.

The idea for the exchange of territory will not be accepted by Albanians living in the northern part of Kosovo. Citizens living in Serb-majority municipalities say that the most important natural resources of Kosovo are in the north.

Nuhi Peci from the municipality of Zvecan advocates no exchange ideas. As he says, if the north is lost, then the whole of Kosovo loses:

„The one who says that, allegedly, the exchange of territory may occur, this is not favourable for Kosovo. The greatest natural resources are in this part. How to lose Trepca, Zvecan and Gazivode? They will lose Kosovo, because here are the most important natural wealth.“

Izet Nelja, who lives in the north, tells Radio Kosova that any idea of exchange is unacceptable and that such a thing can defunct Kosovo:

„Do they know what they say about the exchange? The war was waged for Mitrovica. If we had given Mitrovica at the beginning, there would have not been war of 1998/1999. “

For Gazmend Vitaku it is important that Kosovo and Serbia achieve peace. However, he says that the great powers of the world will decide on the important issues:

„Let them do what these politicians want, only to have peace in Kosovo. Even if the negotiations last for 50 years, they should continue, but the end will have to be a peace agreement. We know that they are not guilty, neither Hashim Thaci nor Aleksandar Vucic, and that everything is done as the great powers want “

Unlike Albanian citizens, who live in the three northern municipalities, Serbian citizens do not want to talk much about this issue.

Politics is not important for Milorad Stojkovic. He told Radio Kosova that the situation is calm, although, as he claims, he never follows the news that has to do with politics:

„The right thing to tell you, I do not care about politics and believe me I don’t follow it. I do not watch television, the only thing I watch is sports. “

In addition, Albanians living in Serbian-majority municipalities are asking Kosovo institutions to have concrete investment plans. They say that the Kosovo government must engage and revive the life of Albanians in the North.
