Twelve people from the four Serb-majority municipalities in the north of Kosovo tested positive for coronavirus, two of whom are receiving treatment in Nis and one in Belgrade, deputy director of the North Mitrovica Hospital Center, Zlatan Elek confirmed for KoSSev.
„Two patients are currently receiving treatment in the infectious disease ward of the North Mitrovica Hospital Center, they are in a stable condition, while another person has being transported to Nis,“ Elek said, adding that other infected patients are in self-isolation.
Approximately 20-25 samples per day are tested for COVID-19 at the Institute for Public Health in North Mitrovica.
„Samples are now being sent to the Veterinary Institute in Kraljevo, and therefore the results will come faster,“ Elek added.
In total, 13 people from Kosovo Serb communities have tested positive for coronavirus, twelve from the north and one from the south (a 62-year-old woman from a village near Gracanica).
Kosovo Serb communities saw its first coronavirus-related death yesterday, the head of the Kosovo Office, Marko Djuric said.
The patient was a 48-year-old man from Leposavic municipality, who died three days after being admitted to the Hospital Center in Nis. He was also suffering from kidney disease.
The head of the North Mitrovica Hospital Center, Milan Ivanovic had previously confirmed that the patient used to come to North Mitrovica for dialysis three times a week, claiming that the doctors had acted in accordance with the regulations and that as soon as they suspected the possibility of infection, they isolated the patient in a separate room, using a special dialysis machine.
