A large cache of heavy weaponry was discovered today during police raids in the northern Kosovo municipalities of Mitrovica North and Zvečan, with the most significant find reported on property belonging to Aleksandar Arsenijević, the leader of the Serbian Democracy party.
The Kosovo Police, accompanied by EULEX and KFOR units, carried out searches at three separate locations – one in northern Mitrovica and two in Zvečan. According to Deputy Regional Commander of the Kosovo Police for the North, Veton Elshani, the operation reportedly followed intelligence leads.
In the village of Valač/Vallaq, Zvečan municipality, a substantial amount of weaponry – including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), hand grenades, ammunition, and firearms – was found buried in plastic tubes beneath a horse stable. Additional ammunition, a protective vest, and 14 graphic cards were seized from the other two locations.
No arrests have been made at this time, although one individual has been summoned to provide a statement as a witness.
Sveçla: Weapons Found on Property Owned by Arsenijević
Kosovo’s acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, confirmed in a public statement that the weapons cache in Valač was found on property owned by Arsenijević. A video of the police operation was published via his official Facebook page.
“Today, specialized units of the Kosovo Police, in cooperation with AKI and the prosecution, and under the observation of KFOR and EULEX, carried out a raid in Valač/Vallaq, Zvečan, where they discovered RPGs, hand grenades, clubs, various weapons and ammunition – enough for a terrorist unit,” stated Sveçla.
He emphasized that “crime can never be hidden, regardless of the cloak it wears,” and vowed continued institutional efforts to “eliminate the remnants of criminal and terrorist elements of Serbia from our country.”
Arsenijević Reacts: ‘This is a Set-Up, a Fabrication to Expel Me’
In a reaction for KoSSev, Aleksandar Arsenijević confirmed that the location in Valač/Vallaq is indeed his property but categorically denied any connection to the discovered weapons. He described the entire operation as a political set-up intended to intimidate and ultimately expel him from Kosovo.
„This is a fabrication for the purpose of expulsion. It’s obvious. That stable is always open – anyone could have planted it. This is not mine,” said Arsenijević, who was reportedly away on a family trip when the raid occurred.
“It’s no coincidence this happened while I’m away. They knew I left on Friday. It looks like a calculated attempt to discredit me and scare me away from returning home – a physical removal,” he added.
Arsenijević emphasized that he is „shocked“ and „outraged,“ asserting that he would never hide such materials on his own property.
“Come on, I’m not that stupid. If I were hiding something like that, I wouldn’t do it on my own land,” he said. “This is a dirty game.”
Previous Warnings of Suspicious Raids and Planting
The party leader also recalled past incidents in which unknown individuals – allegedly police officers – raided homes in the Mali Zvečan area where he kept horses. Despite property damage, no formal reports were accepted, he claims.
He further stated that he had previously warned Deputy Commander Veton Elshani directly of his suspicions that someone might try to frame him.
“We have a serious problem. Anyone, at any time, can plant anything,” Arsenijević warned.
Legal Next Steps
Arsenijević said he had been contacted by the police to come to the scene today, but was unable to due to his ongoing family trip. He announced that he would consult his party colleagues and legal team upon return.
“I have nothing to hide. I want to return home. But this kind of setup could result in years of pretrial detention, and that’s what really worries me,” he said. “Otherwise, I can defend my innocence in any court.”
