European Parliament Rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon described US Ambassador to Pristina, Philip Kosnett’s support for the vote of the no-confidence motion against the government as „unbelievable“ and „irresponsible“.

“An own goal of the US in Kosovo with an historical dimension. How can you an ambassador be pleased to see a functional government tumbling in the corona pandemic? Unbelievable. Irresponsible. I feel terrible sorry for the citizens of Kosovo. They don’t deserve this,” Viola von Cramon tweeted shortly after the German ambassador in Pristina reacted to the no-confidence motion and after the French and German foreign ministries shared their support to the current Kosovo government. Kosnett and the US embassy shared their stance on the matter soon after.

The session of the Kosovo Assembly to vote on the LDK’s no-confidence motion against Kurti’s government is currently taking place. While Germany and France oppose the session of the Kosovo Assembly to recall the Albin Kurti-led government, the US welcomed the initiative to vote on a no-confidence motion against the government.

“Pleased to see the Assembly will hold a session on the no-confidence vote tomorrow. As I told the PM today, it is important for the Assembly and all Kosovo institutions to respect the Constitution,” US ambassador to Pristina, Philip Kosnett tweeted last night. An identical message was soon sent by the US embassy in Pristina, while Kosnett’s tweet was also retweeted by the US Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Richard Grenell.

If the no-confidence motion passes, the current government will have had the shortest term so far, less than two months, despite the convincing victory of the Self-determination party and its coalition partner LDK.
