Veseli tells Thaci not to negotiate Kosovo’s borders

Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli urged President Hashim Thaci not to negotiate a change of borders during dialogue with Serbia.

He said territorial integrity of the state is unnegotiable. The PDK chairman made the statements a day ahead of Thaci’s visit to Brussels when he is expected to meet his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic as part of the EU-facilitated dialogue on the normalisation of relations between the two countries.

Veseli attending, on Thursday, the Conference of Kosovo Ambassadors said the dialogue with Serbia should be concluded, because, as he said, Kosovo cannot afford to exhaust all energies dealing with problems inherited from a bitter past. “Sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country are not negotiable. Mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia is the only alternative for a better future. And this means Kosovo becomes a fully-fledged member of the United Nations, to continue towards membership of NATO and the European Union. Every other option is fake news,” Veseli said.

Talking on the final phase of the dialogue with Serbia, Veseli urged politicians to reach an internal consensus warning that political disagreements are harming Kosovo. “It is obvious that this is reflected also in your work as representatives of Kosovo in respective countries you are accredited to. But you should insist representing our country in the world with dignity,” Veseli told the group of Ambassadors.
