Former Serbian President, Boris Tadić, has accused the Serbian delegation at the Munich Security Conference of spreading claims to Western politicians that Russian intelligence services are behind the ongoing student protests in Serbia.
Tadić condemned these allegations as a „new level of attack on students,“ highlighting that such claims directly contradict the prevailing domestic propaganda in Serbia.
According to him, the government has been portraying the protests as a Western-backed „color revolution,“ rather than one influenced by Russia.
He further pointed out contradictions in the government’s actions, emphasizing that Serbian authorities have simultaneously signed an observer status agreement with the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and formed a joint working group with Russia to combat color revolutions.
„It is absurd to claim that a color revolution is taking place in Serbia while also asserting that Russia is behind it—especially given that the ruling party signed an observer agreement with CSTO and established a task force with Russia specifically to counter such uprisings,“ Tadić said.
The Munich Security Conference, taking place from February 15 to 17, is addressing key global security concerns, with discussions focusing on relations between Russia, the West, and the Balkans. Representatives from both Belgrade and Pristina are in attendance.
Unlike their Kosovo counterparts, such as President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti—whose meetings and statements are receiving significant media attention in Pristina—Serbian representatives have remained relatively discreet, with the exception of Serbia’s ambassador to the U.S., Marko Đurić.
Serbia’s delegation includes Minister for European Integration Tanja Miščević, Commissioner for Equality Brankica Janković, and Prime Minister’s Advisor Jadranka Joksimović.
Meanwhile, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić addressed the issue of color revolutions in a speech delivered on Serbia’s national holiday, Sretenje, in Sremska Mitrovica. He claimed that an attempted color revolution in Serbia had failed and vowed to resist such movements in the future.
„I will destroy you worldwide because my textbook on how I defeated a color revolution will be a global bestseller. I have learned all your tricks, you will never bring Serbia down again, and I will help others resist as well. Let the USAID and NED know—it’s over, you will never defeat Serbia,“ Vučić declared.
He also asserted that the protests in Serbia were allegedly instigated from the West due to his refusal to accept Kosovo’s „capitulation.“
Government-aligned media outlets have used such rhetoric to discredit the mass protests, which have grown into a nationwide movement led by students.
