The operation in Zubin Potok was carried out due to the suspicion of illegal activities related to cryptocurrencies, Kosovo’s Interior Minister, Xhelal Svecla, confirmed yesterday. Svecla also said that there are suspicions that there was a leak of information about the action carried out yesterday, as well as the October operation.
„Today, the Kosovo Police in support of the Kosovo Customs activity, has conducted an action in the Municipality of Zubin Potok, in which case three suspicious locations were checked for illegal cryptocurrency mining activities,“ Svecla wrote on Facebook, confirming unofficial findings of the KoSSev portal.
The Interior Minister added that there is a suspicion that information about the action was leaked because the equipment used to carry out in the „illegal activities“ was not found at one of the locations.
„Infrastructure was noticed in one of the locations but the equipment for this illegal activity was missing. Taking into account this fact, the Kosovo Police is conducting intensive investigations into a leak of official information,“ Svecla wrote.
This is not the first time Pristina institutions suspected that information on operations in northern Kosovo was leaked.
Previously, the director of the Kosovo Police, Samedin Mehmeti, revealed that he suspected official information was leaked during the Kosovo Police action on October 13th in North Mitrovica, Zvecan, as well as in other municipalities in Kosovo.
At the time, clashes broke out between locals and members of the special units of the Kosovo Police. Mehmeti then said that they could not carry out the action in several locations due to a large number of citizens who gathered to „obstruct police officers“ in carrying out the operation.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has repeatedly and publicly stated that the Serbian security services are fully aware of the events in Kosovo, especially in the Serb-majority areas and the north.
On the eve of the blockade of the crossings in the north back in September, and the deployment of members of special units near Jarinje and Brnjak, Vucic said that Belgrade knew the day before that Pristina was „planning to deploy its special forces to the north“.
Before Svecla, the Kosovo customs also reacted, confirming that they were the ones who carried out the operation with the help of the Kosovo police.
Early on Saturday morning, several residents of Zubin Potok told KoSSev that an action was carried out in the territory of this municipality.
They also testified that members of the special unit of the Kosovo Police also took part in the action.
One of our readers said that he noticed more than ten armored vehicles in the village of Donje Varage just before 6 am.
As he said, special forces were also seen in the village of Zupce. Some of the locals even stated that they saw the special forces allegedly leaving the local cooperative with „some kind of papers“.
