While a hundred people attended the “1 out of 5 million” protest for the first time in North Mitrovica on Saturday, one man also placed Gracanica on the map of those Serbian cities who have been protesting since December of last year.
„I am Branislav Markovic and I live in Gracanica. I would like to take this opportunity to give my full support to the Serbs from Kosovska Mitrovica who went out tonight to fight for their rights and freedom. To give them the support to always and at any time, without fear and hesitation, say everything that is in their hearts and to ask people from the Government of Serbia to never again forbid, to a single Serb, in any city, to walk the streets of the city in which they were born,“ he said in front of the famous Serbian monastery in a video message and photos he shared on social networks.
The news of the protest in North Mitrovica has caused great media attention in Serbia, but also in the region and in the international public, winning approval and support throughout Serbia, but also a strong denial and pressure of the authorities for the protest to fail. It was assessed as an act of courage, however, according to the head of the Kosovo Office, as well as Srpska Lista, it was a failure and a debacle. Marko Djuric himself stayed for three days in North Mitrovica ahead of the protest walk, while Srpska Lista also organized a protest a day before the “1 out of 5 million”.
