The feast day of Saint Danilo II, Archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church, was marked this morning at Banjska Monastery, where a Holy Hierarchical Liturgy was served by Metropolitan Teodosije. The celebration continued with the cutting of the traditional slava bread and the communion of the faithful.
Addressing the gathered worshippers, Metropolitan Teodosije said that coming together at the monastery was a testimony of “faith and devotion to God, the holy sites, and the land of Kosovo and Metohija.”
Speaking about Saint Danilo II, the Metropolitan emphasized that he was a shepherd of his people who, following the example of Christ, embodied selfless service and sacrifice.
“Now we are fewer than ever, but by gathering here we testify to our faith and to our devotion to God, our holy sites, and our holy Kosovo and Metohija land. Saint Danilo was that shepherd of his people, following the example of the Good Shepherd, who did not spare his own life but laid it down for his people, giving us an example of how we too should live selflessly today and, if necessary, lay down our lives, but not abandon our holy sites, this holy Kosovo and Metohija land, and especially our Orthodox faith, which our forefathers confirmed, strengthened, and passed on, so that, God willing, we may pass it on to our descendants as well,” Metropolitan Teodosije said.
He also noted that Banjska Monastery had recently endured what he described as a “Golgotha,” adding that despite the hardships, the monastery brotherhood continues to endure.
“With faith in God, the brotherhood perseveres, and all of you who come here confirm our faith,” he said.
