On the two year anniversary of the most prominent Kosovo Serb leader’s assassination, two memorial services were delivered at different times at the scene of his murder in North Mitrovica. For the first time Ivanovic’s strongest opponent Srpska lista showed up, accompanied by Ivanovic’s closest ally Ksenija Bozovic. This service was followed by another paying of tribute by Ivanovic’s surviving spouse Marina Ivanovic, accompanied by Ivanovic’s friends, some of his party’s and other political associates and a Swiss embassy representative. A double marking of Ivanovic’s assassination also took place in Belgrade.
Ivanovic’s spouse Marina Ivanovic thanked the people in attendance stating the family will seek for the truth as long as they live, while the Swiss diplomat said his presence there serves to remind the family they still have their condolences and have not forgotten what happened two years ago. The Swiss ambassador has paid tribute to the Ivanovic’s already several times now.
Bozovic: The real culprit has to answer
„Still the unanswered question, who commissioned and killed Oliver Ivanovic? Only from this place today, after two years, I can say that we will all work together to bring this murder to light and the real warrants and the real killers are brought to justice,“ Bozovic said during the first gathering.
She claimed to receive the same message this morning from the Government of Serbia.
Bozovic criticized the indictment recently raised by the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office – stating that it, and the way the trial began reflects the quality of work of Kosovo institutions, while also claiming that the indicted Silvana Arsovic will „prove her innocence“.
Rakic: We will not stop until the perpetrator and the ordering party are identified
The Srpska Lista which together with the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, led a strong campaign against Ivanovic in 2013 and in 2017, labeling him a traitor to Serb interests and a breaker of Serbian unity, appeared for the first time today at the scene of Ivanovic’s murder.
The mayor of North Mitrovica, who is Srpska Lista chief, Ivanovic’s longtime political opponent, Goran Rakic, addressed the media with a call to Pristina institutions to resolve the Ivanovic murder case as soon as possible, but he also sent an invitation to the international community.
„The last we heard was when they accused the closest associate, the secretary of Oliver Ivanovic, was pointing in which direction this investigation was going. We will not give up on seeking justice and for as long as we are here today, we will send a letter to all addresses, a letter to the international community to get involved, to send their investigative team and to help Pristina, if it is not already able to find out,“ Rakic said.
Vice President of the Kosovo Assembly, Slavko Simic, MPs Jasmina Dedic, Ivan Todosijevic, Verica Ceranic, Miljana Nikolic, as well as Leposavic Mayor Zoran Todic and Zubin Potok Mayor Nemanja Jaksic also came to the attention of Ivanovic.
A total of four commemorations of the two-year anniversary of the murder of a Serbian politician took place today.
Two memorials to Ivanovic are also being held in Belgrade. A memorial service was also held at 11 a.m. at the New Cemetery in Belgrade, in the Alley of Meritorious Citizens, where Ivanovic was buried on January 18, by his surviving Ivanovic family.
Opposite to it, as Ivanovic’s ten year life partner Milena Popovic had previously announced in the premises of Serbian government, the memorial she had organized with top state officials had already taken place in the crypt of St. Sava’s Temple in Belgrade, at 8:15, when Ivanovic was shot dead.
