Srpska Lista in Niksic supports DF candidate

A Srpska Lista delegation, consisting of President Goran Rakic and Vice President Igor Simic, is currently on an official visit to Niksic in Montenegro ahead of local elections scheduled for Sunday. Namely, the SL officials gave their support to the coalition Za buducnost Niksica („For the Future of Niksic“) and one of the chief members of this coalition, Marko Kovacevic.

Goran Rakic told the Niksic electorate to be united because that is the key to success and the future of this city.

„On Sunday, March 14th, you must be united because that is the only key to success and the future of Niksic. The brothers from Kosovo are with you, just as you were with us when it was a difficult time for us. I also send my greatest gratitude and greetings to my brother Andrija Mandic, who was with us, who is with us now, and who will always be with us. Once again, good luck on Sunday – For the future of Niksic!“ – Srpska Lista chief, Goran Rakic said in Niksic today.

On the other hand, the Vice-President of SL, Igor Simic said that although Serbs from Kosovo have many problems – „their eyes are now fixed on all of you“.

„Fixed on you, above all, because of the magnificent lithiums thanks to which you managed to save Moraca, Ostrog, and all other shrines for us, thanks to the victory that leads us into the future. For the future of Niksic, for Marko at the head of Niksic, but also all Serb people in Montenegro,“ Simic said.

Speaking on behalf of the brothers and sisters from Kosovo who are following this election process -as well as the one from August 30th, Simic told Niksic residents „that no matter how great the threats are, no matter how difficult it may be, we must be united.“

Simic revealed that they are staying in Niksic to convey their full support, but „also to invite you to be true to yourself, to be united, support our brothers because we know very well how much that support means when it arrives from Belgrade, from central Serbia, and how important it was for us that Andrija Mandic and Milan Knezevic and the rest of our brothers came to visit us and send a message that Serbs in Montenegro stand by the Serb people in Kosovo.“

Marko Kovacevic from the „For the future of Niksic“ coalition thanked SL for the support, adding that it is important now ahead of the Niksic elections as it was many times in the past.

„During the last year, when we all stood up against the Law on Freedom of Religion, they also stood up there in very difficult circumstances, to support us, and that support was the wind in our sails because we knew that if they could stand up, we can stand up here too. If they could come here today to give us support, we must win on March 14th and we will win for a better future for Niksic, but also a better future for our brothers from Kosovo,“ Kovacevic concluded.

Local elections are scheduled to be held in Niksic on March 14th. Niksic is the second largest city in Montenegro and the birthplace of Milo Djukanovic.

The elections hold particular importance because the outcome will be very important for the DPS, as well as for the parties of the current Montenegrin government. After the three-decade-long rule of Djukanovic’s DPS, a coalition of former opposition parties led by the current Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic took power in Montenegro since the end of last year. This government is having a hard time gaining the support of the influential public in the wider region even before its creation – during last year’s elections, and it remains on shaky legs. Before the victory over Djukanovic’s DPS, protests against Djukanovic’s government took place in Montenegro over a period of several months.
