The three-day-long „Epic of the KLA“, namely Adem Jashari, who is seen by Kosovo Albanians as a „legendary commander“ and „father of the nation“, is underway. While Pristina officials say that every citizen of Kosovo „is now in historical Prekaze in his thoughts“ due to the Jashari family’s resistance to Serb forces in 1998, Srpska Lista accuses Pristina of „forcing a one-sided view of the past.“ The party claims that a photo of Adem Jashari and members of this family was included in government employees’ email signatures, including Serbs and other minority communities. KoSSev’s inquiries into these allegations sent to the Kosovo government remained unanswered by the time the news was published.
„In order to force a one-sided view of the past in these areas on all communities in Kosovo, without any announcement, legal basis or consent, Kosovo institutions included in the email signature of employees, including Serbs, Bosniaks, Goranis and others, a photograph of KLA leaders Adem Jashari, Shaban Jashari and Hamez Jashari in a red and black frame with eagle heads similar to those on the Albanian flag,“ SL announced last night.
According to the party, the „dictatorial“ regime of the Kosovo prime minister „by abusing institutions, wants to force Serb mayors, deputies, and all Serbs – when using official emails within the institutions in Kosovo – to promote the KLA and its leaders, despite the well-known attitude of the Serb people about that organization.“
They describe the move as another form of institutional pressure, but also a classic example of discrimination against Serb and other peoples „who are just doing their job, and who are not allowed to have their own opinion on the events of the past“.
At the same time, they demanded that international representatives „make a clear decision“ on this issue, that is, oppose discrimination and the imposition of uniformity of opinion.
Regarding the allegations presented by SL, the KoSSev portal reached out to the Kosovo government spokespersons, on two email addresses, as well as on Viber.
We asked them for a comment regarding the allegations, that is, whether and why a photo of Adem Jashari and his family members was placed in the email signature used by the government employees.
No answers has been received as of the publication of this article.
In the meantime, RTV Kim reported that an email their newsroom received from the Municipality of Strpce contained the „Epic of the KLA“ symbol with the picture of Adem Jashari and his brothers.
This municipality announced that „every received or sent e-mail contains the Epic symbol“, and that it is an automatic response from the „rks“ domain.
The head of the mayor’s cabinet, Igor Savic, attached a photo of the email they sent to this newsroom, which does not contain the mentioned logo, writes RTV Kim.
As in previous years, from March 5 to March 7, the event „Epic of the Kosovo Liberation Army“ or „night of the fire“ is organized in Kosovo, in memory of the three-day resistance of the Jashari family against the Serb forces in 1998. This event is interpreted in Kosovo as the beginning of the war, while Adem Jashari is seen as the „father of the KLA“.
The commemoration started in Prekaze on Sunday, followed by a ceremony in the barracks in Pristina named after Adem Jashari. After returning to the village of Prekaze, Pristina officials then headed to the Kosovo Assembly yesterday, where a session dedicated to the Jashari family was held.
In the past two days, the representatives of the government in Kosovo, as well as the opposition, glorified the KLA, alleging that without it „there would never be a free and independent Kosovo“. They spoke of the „sacrifice of the Jashari family“ and the „genocidal regime of Serbia“.
While Pristina officials glorify Adem Jashari and accuse Serbian forces of carrying out a massacre against his family, Serbian state sources classify Adem Jashari as a terrorist who was killed by police forces after a three-day siege from March 5 to March 7, 1998. Jashari previously refused to surrender and barricaded himself and his entire family in their family home in Prekaze.
