A 20-year-old Serb, M.R., from Zvečan, who was arrested yesterday for allegedly threatening the Prime Minister of Kosovo via social media, has been ordered to remain in custody for one month. His defense team plans to file an appeal, citing mitigating circumstances, including the fact that the young man acknowledged his mistake.
The information about the detention was first confirmed to KoSSev by his father, M.R., and later by his lawyer.
The hearing was initially scheduled for 11:00 AM, then postponed to 1:00 PM. After waiting an additional hour, the family was informed that the hearing would take place at 5:00 PM. Eventually, it was rescheduled for 4:00 PM, according to the father of the detained young man.
The defendant is represented by lawyer Jelena Krivokapić, who earlier confirmed the police report that her client was initially detained for 48 hours. He is accused of making a threat to the Kosovo Prime Minister via a social media platform.
Defense Lawyer: „He Recognized His Mistake“
Krivokapić presented what she believes to be mitigating factors, such as the fact that the young man was visibly intoxicated at the time of the alleged offense and was unable to think clearly or act rationally. She also highlighted that he comes from a respected family, with the father of the defendant recently assisting an injured Kosovo special police officer in a traffic accident in the village of Grabovac.
The lawyer added that the detention was ordered based on a formal explanation related to the danger of repeating the alleged offense, a decision to which she intends to appeal.
„My client immediately recognized his mistake, and he expressed this acknowledgment. He even tried to rectify his prior mistake, but the judge referred to a legal provision dealing with threats to high-ranking individuals,“ Krivokapić said.
Due to the urgency, the defense team received the detention order in Albanian, but the lawyer is waiting for an official version in Serbian.
