The deputy of the Kosovo Ombudsman, Srdjan Sentić, condemned the burning of a Serbian flag in Velika Hoca. According to him, it is not only a criminal act, but also an act of vandalism, primitivism and disrespect for a nation, regardless of where that nation lives.
The flag in Velika Hoca was set on fire last weekend, the Kosovo Office reported on Monday. The flag in question was displayed on the monument to the murdered and kidnapped Serbs in the territory of the municipality of Orahovac.
The case was reported to the Kosovo Police, which confirmed that an investigation had been launched.
The deputy of the Kosovo Ombudsman, Srdjan Sentić, condemned this incident, as well as the burning of the Serbian flag earlier this year near the monument to Miloš Obilić at the roundabout in the village of Gracanica.
„The Serbian flag is not only the flag of Serbia but also of the entire Serbian people, just as the Albanian flag is not only the flag of Albania but also of the entire Albanian people,“ Sentić said.
He emphasizes that burning flags, whether Albanian or Serbian, is not only a criminal act, but also an act of vandalism, chauvinism, primitivism and disrespect for a nation, regardless of where it lives.
At the same time, Sentić called on society to react, in order to „discourage all those who want to disturb us with their actions and return us to the past“.
He emphasized that a message must be sent that this act is unacceptable.
„Regardless of our differences, all of us can achieve great things for our citizens together, with mutual respect for our differences and the symbols of our nations and our communities,“ concluded Sentić.
