It is unlikely that the Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) will play in Kosovo, and if this happens it will be a failure of the Kosovo security authorities – the General Secretary of the Football Federation of Kosovo, Eroll Salihu said.
The draw for the 16th edition of the Serbian Cup determined that FC Red Star will play against FC Trepca from North Mitrovica in Zvecan on September 25th.
The Football Federation of Kosovo has already filed a complaint with FIFA and UEFA – which it also did previously this year.
The Football Federation of Kosovo had previously filed a complaint about FC „Trepca“ from North Mitrovica participating in the Serbian League West.
„FIFA and UEFA should immediately suspend the participation of clubs from Kosovo in competitions organized by the Football Association of Serbia. The situation will escalate if FC ‘Trepca’ participates in the Serbian League West. It will not be tolerated by the government, the police and other state officials,“ the FFK statement said.
The FFK also called on these international football organizations to „force“ the Serbian Football Association to change its status which states that Kosovo is part of its association.
At the time, FC ‘Trepca’ declined to comment on these decision made by the FFK for KoSSev.
„It is unlikely that the Red Star will play in Kosovo. We have sent a complaint to FIFA and UEFA. The case is under review and is very sensitive,“ the General Secretary of the Football Federation of Kosovo, Eroll Salihu said, Klan Kosova reported.
Salihu also said that they had informed Kosovo Police and Customs about this matter, adding that it will be “a failure of the security authorities” if Red Star are allowed to enter Kosovo.
„We have sent information and a request to the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Customs to prevent their entry into Kosovo. If they enter, it will be a failure of the security authorities,“ he underlined.
The Football Federation of Kosovo joined UEFA, as its 55th member, in May of 2016, by a majority of votes, without any changes to the statute of this organization. The same year, just a few days later, Kosovo also joined FIFA.
Kosovo’s admission to the UEFA by a majority of votes, without changes to the statute, which states that only a UN member can become a UEFA member, was one of the largest precedents in the organization’s recent history – according to estimates at the time.
The Football Association of Serbia harshly condemned the UEFA decision, but did not initiate any proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, to which it was entitled.
These decisions followed years of vigorous lobbying by Kosovo and its partners, with the frequent justifications that the decision for Kosovo footballers to participate in the international arena as equals was based on the advantage of sports has over politics.
Problems with matches hosted by Kosovo Serb teams have been present ever since December 2018.
According to a FC Trepca’s statement at the time, due to the political situation, all sports clubs from the territory of Kosovo could not host a match during that part of the season, so they played the remaining games as guests.
Also, FC Trepca has been playing at the Zvecan stadium, claiming that they were expelled from the stadium in North Mitrovica.
