„Essentially, this is not a question for Belgrade. This is a question for the international community. The international community assumed responsibility with Resolution 1244 for every situation in Kosovo and Metohija, but also for the respect of the peace, security and life of all those living in the southern Serbian province. Now is the time to see whether the international community is able to implement its own mandate and its own decisions,“ the Serbian Minister of Defense said earlier today, following the adoption of several laws in the Kosovo Assembly on the transformation of the KSF into an armed force.
During yesterday’s session of the Kosovo Assembly, all three drafts of the law on the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force have been adopted – as was expected. The Kosovo opposition and the ruling parties have united on this issue. The law on the Kosovo Security Force was adopted with 98 votes in favor, the law on service in the KSF – with 96, while the law on the Ministry of Defense was adopted with 101 votes.
The first strong reactions arrived yesterday from two Serbian officials – the head of the Kosovo Office Marko Djuric and the Defense Minister Vulin. The Serbian President has not yet addressed the public, however, he warned earlier that the situation would be very difficult for Serbs if this were to happen.
Investing money which does not exist
Serb media reported that Srpska Lista MPs, who had, as they themselves say, formally frozen their participation in the Kosovo government and parliament, left yesterday’s session followed by swearing and insults directed to the Serb deputies, but also to the Serbian people.
Igor Simic addressed the MPs before leaving the assembly, emphasizing that the draft law is contrary to all legal acts. Simic also pointed out the bad economic impact of the adoption of these laws.
Investing €150,000 in „some kind of military formations“ is not in the interest of Kosovo Albanians, as they are not leaving Kosovo because such formations did not exist before now, but because, primarily, they have no economic perspective, Simic added.
„Maybe international representatives would hear our appeal more clearly if we used tear gas here, but we will not do it out of respect for the citizens we are representing,“ said Simic, after which Srpska Lista MPs left the Kosovo Assembly session.
Vulin: Laws adopted to threaten Serbs and Serbia
The adoption of these draft laws were carried out „to threaten Serbs and Serbia,“ said Vulin.
„Giving heavy weaponry to unpunished terrorists is a threat to peace and the opportunity for them to repeat their crimes,“ the Minister of Defense wrote in a statement.
Sputnik: Belgrade cannot prevent the transformation of KSF
While commenting on the decision of the Kosovo parliament, the Chairman of Serbia’s Parliamentary Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, Milovan Drecun, said that such behavior could not be prevented by Belgrade and that only the West could do it.
„If they want an agreement on the final status with Belgrade, they should not even think about this, let alone make such moves for which they know in advance that neither the Serbian people nor the Serbian states will accept,“ Drecun said.
Deputies of Srpska Lista will not bow to uncivilized behavior
The formal chief of Srpska Lista, Goran Rakic, said in a statement delivered to the media that Srpska Lista representatives showed with their attitude that they were „true representatives of the Serbian people, who will not bow to any low level insults and uncivilized behavior.“
Rakic said that the „shameful behavior“ was unfortunately not a sufficient reason for the Chairman to interrupt the session or, at least, „to apologize for these insults and violations of the Rules of Procedure.“
Rakic also expressed on behalf of Srpska Lista „absolute disappointment“ in the silence of international representatives, whose envoys, he said, also attended the session.
„Srpska Lista will bear full responsibility for supporting Haradinaj’s government“
Partija Kosovskih Srba (The Kosovo Serb Party) also reacted in a brief press release, condemning the policies of Srpska Lista and Aleksandar Vucic.
„By giving the most direct support in forming the government of Ramush Haradinaj, it (Srpska Lista) enabled the same government, composed of Ramush Haradinaj, Kadri Veseli, Fatmir Limaj and Aleksandar Vucic, to start the transformation of security forces into the Kosovo army – contrary to the Constitution of Kosovo,“ reads the party press release.
„Srpska Lista will bear full responsibility in front of the Serbian people for supporting the Government of Ramush Haradinaj,“ PKS wrote, adding that this government „is directly working against the interests of Serbs in Kosovo,“ and that, as they say, „it led to the beginning of the formation of the Kosovo Army“.
