„The Plus Center convenience store in Urosevac is the only store in Kosovo that does not sell products from Serbia,“ this is what its owner Sylejman Neziri told the Kosovo media. It is also the first one in this area that started implementing the Consumer Protection Act. Namely, the flag of the country of origin is displayed next to each product sold in this store.
Neziri made this decision after the war, despite the risk of losing profit. He even managed to expand, achieving an annual turnover of over €3 million by selling just domestic products.
Neziri’s store was the first one to start implementing the Kosovo Consumer Protection Act by displaying the country of origin of the products being sold, Pristina-based Koha reported, confirming there were no products from Serbia at the Plus Center convenience store.
The Consumer Protection Act was was adopted in June and will take effect on December 29th this year.
„Consumers have long demanded that this be done in order to know from which country products come from,“ Neziri said, Telegrafi portal wrote.
„I think domestic products were not given a chance. It is shame that all products are imported from Serbia and that local entrepreneurs are not given a chance, regardless of the fact that the quality of the products is not very high,“ he added.
The news arrives after the latest measure by the Kosovo Government to raise the import tax by 10% on dairy products and building construction material from Serbia and BiH, but also announcements of further custom tax increases will come down the line.
Neziri also referred to the 10% tax increase on imports of products from Serbia and Bosnia, saying that this measure was applied „late“ and that it was „low“.
„I think that the tax should be 50% because we import all goods from a state that caused all the damage,“ said Neziri, Telegrafi reported.
