PAK on the closing of gas stations: They operated without a license

The three gas stations that were closed today in the north of Kosovo were operating without a license, the Kosovo Privatization Agency said.

Officials of this agency, together with the Tax Administration of Kosovo (PAK), assisted by the Kosovo Police, visited three gas stations in the north of Kosovo today and then closed all three.

The „NIS petrol“ gas station in North Mitrovica and two more in the territory of the Zubin Potok municipality were closed – one in the center of this town, and the other, also „NIS petrol“, situated near the dam on Lake Gazivode.

Police officers placed yellow tapes around the buildings and are securing the site.

A sticker was placed on the door presumably by the Kosovo institutions whose officials closed the facilities.

What does the Agency say?

In the meantime, the Privatization Agency of Kosovo issued a statement saying that the facilities are actually under their management, and that they were leased.

„In the last few days, we received information that the renters of gas stations under the management of the Kosovo Privatization Agency in the municipalities of North Mitrovica and Zubin Potok are operating without a license,“ the Agency said.

They confirmed that their officials, together with the TAK and the Central Inspection for Market Surveillance, went to the field.

„After the tour and inspection, it was confirmed that three gas stations do not possess a license from the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade and two of them are not even taxed,“ they said.

In the statement, they underlined that this is a violation of the lease agreement with the Agency and the Law on trade in petroleum products and renewable fuels.

„This endangers the safety of consumers and the environment,“ they added.

At the same time, they state that the MINT Inspectorate suspended the activity of these entities, and that the Agency terminated the lease contracts.

„The agency informs all tenants, as defined in the lease agreement, that they must operate in accordance with the legislation of Kosovo.“

KoSSev portal reached out to the Tax Administration of Kosovo for more information about the reason why these gas stations were closed. By the time the news was published, no answer had arrived.
