The acting President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani called on the President of the Assembly of Albania, Gramoz Ruci today for this institution to „follow the example of the Kosovo Assembly, which adopted a resolution calling for condemnation of the Serb genocide in Kosovo.“
Osmani is currently on a multi-day official visit to Albania. After yesterday’s meeting with the President of Albania, Ilir Meta, Osmani met with Ruci today, urging the institution he is in charge of „take a stand on Serb crimes.“
She also shared her view of the outcome of the dialogue with Ruci. Serbia must be punished, she stressed.
„The dialogue with Serbia still remains unfinished. We are determined to conduct a dialogue only on mutual recognition, by respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state, recognizing and accepting the inviolability of the territory, constitutional regulations, and the level of political organization. Kosovo cannot reward the genocidal policy Serbia led against us with its territory or other concessions. Serbia must repent, apologize, and be punished. And it must not be rewarded.“
The acting Kosovan president requested even greater cooperation and coordination of the two assemblies, as well as inter-parliamentary exchange and development of parliamentary diplomacy – the presidency statement reads.
Osmani sends similar messages to MPs in the Albanian Assembly
After meeting with Ruci, Osmani also addressed the Albanian Assembly, devoting the majority of her speech to Serbia and calls to Albanian MPs to „join forces with Kosovo and stand up to hate speech, anti-Albanian speech and attempts to cover up crimes.“
She urged the Albanian MPs to remember the sacrifice of the entire nation.
According to Osmani, 13,000 people sacrificed their lives for freedom during the war, „mostly women, the elderly and children,“ while over 1,600 of which are still listed as missing.
„As well as over 1,133 children, many of whom were babies only weeks or months old, whose names are the foundations of our independence.“
She also stressed that no one „from Albanian countries“ should be involved in saving the face of Serbia „because Serbia has shown its true face with its genocidal policy towards us.“
„Every Albanian representative, in Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, and now the resounding vote of Shaip Kamberi in the Serbian Assembly, should seek justice for the victims of Serbia,“ Osmani argued. She also urged for unity so as to avoid „the truth being twisted before our eyes.“
„There is only one truth, and it took place in front of the eyes of the whole world – that Serbia committed genocide in Kosovo, while Kosovo defended the threshold of its home,“ Osmani claimed.
She also sent a message to the youth and the diaspora, which she described as the nation’s greatest potential.
„Let us work together as two sovereign states, with two flags, but with one spirit that no one could ever defeat. Let us prove to the whole world that we, the ancient Illyrians and the youngest Europeans, the most peaceful, pro-European and pro-American people in the world, can and that we will succeed,” Osmani concluded.
