Fourteen nurses and other healthcare workers from the North Mitrovica Hospital Center are to begin to work at the Covid hospital in Batajnica to assist their colleagues, the head of this hospital center, Zlatan Elek, confirmed for KoSSev today.
Due to the global rising infection rate, including Serbia, there is a growing need for patient hospitalization, alerted the medical authorities.
The newly built Covid hospital in Batajnica, is at maximum capacity. Approximately 900 patients are currently hospitalized in this hospital, the head of the ICU of that hospital, Dejan Markovic, confirmed today.
Markovic told RTS that the health workers employed in this hospital are exhausted, adding that they have received help from all health institutions in Serbia.
On the recommendation of the Ministry of Health of Serbia, this was the reason for the North Mitrovica Hospital Center to also offer its help, the head of the North Mitrovica Hospital Center, Zlatan Elek, confirmed to KoSSev. A 14-member group of healthcare workers has thus gone to Belgrade. He stressed that all of the staff have voluntarily applied. They will start working in Batajnica as of tomorrow, for a fortnight.
If there is a need for additional staff, another group of 15 people from North Mitrovica that may join them.
Elek recalled that 120 new nurses and technicians were recently hired by the North Mitrovica Hospital Center.
He said that he is not aware as to whether other health institutions in Kosovo Serb areas would be sending their workers to Batajnica.
