„The majority of Kosovo voters voted against the future of their children and against the survival of Serbs in Kosovo, that’s devastating,“ in a statement for KoSSev, journalist Branislav Krstić, assessed yesterday’s election day in Serbia, where more than 70% of Serbs from the territory of Kosovo cast their votes for the list „Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia Must Not Stop.“ Krstić states that the citizens went to the polls in an organized manner, with the exception of those who voted against this list, who did so in order to avoid their votes from “being stolen”.
Commenting on the election results, Krstić estimates that the option „proposed“ by the government in Belgrade will always have the support of Serbs from Kosovo due to Belgrade having unlimited financial resources.
„Belgrade stopped physically threatening Serbs out of one very simple reason – that this is impossible to do in a neighboring country. Kosovo is an independent state because Belgrade wished it so, and threats and blackmail cannot be used anymore. What is left for the dictator in Belgrade is the unlimited use of financial resources,“ Krstić assesses.
In support of this, he cited the fact that a large number of Kosovo Serbs were recently employed.
„In the last six months, more than 2,000 Serbs have been employed in Kosovo, both in the institutions of the Republic of Serbia and in local self-governments, so we are talking about a clear strategy of President Vučić’s cabinet,“ he alleged.
Beatings and threats are no longer efficient when it comes to Kosovo Serbs, but, unfortunately, the mechanism that remains is unlimited financial resources, jobs and even paying voters
According to him, the votes of Kosovo Serbs for the current government in Serbia represents a „vote against the future.“
„For me, as a citizen of North Mitrovica and a citizen of Kosovo for several decades, it is unacceptable and incomprehensible that Serbs who vote on the order of Srpska Lista continue to vote against the future of their children and against the survival of Serbs in Kosovo for the sake of 30, 40 or 50 thousand (dinars) of some kind of income, which is devastating.“
However, Krstić added that he has understanding for these people, because it a matter of having basic income.
„Even though I don’t agree with them politically, even though I judge them as subjects and minions, I still have a certain amount of empathy towards them, because I understand and I know very well that not all of us, as one group of Serbs, can agree to have neither bread nor milk, for one to be unable to afford to buy one’s child a pair of sneakers, simply to be politically correct,“ says Krstić.
Kosovo Serbs also went to vote voluntarily, but against the SNS and so that their vote would not be stolen
Referring to the fact that Serbs from Kosovo had to travel to Serbia proper for the second time in order to exercise their right to vote, Krstić reminds that apart from those who went by organized buses, some citizens went to the polls in order to, he claims, „vote against SNS“.
„The people who went to Raska, not because it was part of a blackmail, pressure from the SL, but because they voluntarily went to vote against the SNS,“ underlined Krstić.
In his words, another reason they chose to go is to reportedly prevent the Serbian Progressive Party from „stealing their votes“.
„Not because they believed that SNS would fall, but because they wanted to make it impossible for SL and SNS to steal their votes, which was the practice until now,“ added Krstić.
He remarked that opposition parties received more than 2,000 votes from Kosovo Serbs.
Commenting on the crowds at the crossings during the election day, primarily in Jarinje, Krstić estimates that this is a consequence of the departure of voters who voted for the opposition.
„I am convinced that the long lines at the administrative or border crossings between Kosovo and Serbia are the result of a large number of opposition voters, that is, those who vote against SL and the Serbian Progressive Party,“ he said.
According to the data of the Republic Election Commission, 23,878 people from Kosovo voted yesterday out of a total of 94,161 of registered voters.
The list „Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia Must Not Stop“ won the majority of votes of Serbs from Kosovo, 17,087 or 71.56%. SPS came in second with 2,249 votes, and “Serbia Against Violence” took the third place with 1,042.
