For the third time in North Mitrovica, and the second time organized by students, a silent gathering titled „15 Minutes of Silence for 15 Victims“ was held today in front of the Faculty of Philosophy.
The event, which began at 11:52 AM, observed 15 minutes of silence in memory of the 15 victims who lost their lives when the canopy of the newly renovated railway station in Novi Sad collapsed.
Organized by students of the University of Pristina with a temporary seat in North Mitrovica, the gathering attracted around a hundred students and citizens.
In the front row, students held a large banner with the message „Corruption Kills,“ alongside other signs reading „Who Can Study When Their Conscience Weighs on Them?“, „Support for Students and Pupils from Kosovo and Metohija,“ and „RTS Is Waking Up.“
For the first time, several professors from the university joined the students in their demonstration. Meanwhile, a few members of the Kosovo Police were present near the site, and a significant number of media outlets covered the event.
The organizers made it clear in their announcement that the gathering was strictly non-political, stating that it had „no political background or intention to incite any unrest.“
The silent protest remained peaceful and devoid of political figures.
In December, four university professors publicly supported the students, and later, seven more launched an online petition, which was signed by 360 professors, assistants, and students.
More than three months have passed since the canopy collapse at the Novi Sad railway station, which claimed 15 lives and left two others seriously injured. While public support for the students continues to grow, they have yet to receive backing from the Serbian authorities.
