Živojin Nešić has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a war crime committed during the Kosovo conflict—specifically, an act of sexual violence.
The verdict was confirmed to KoSSev by his attorney, Miloš Delević.
According to Delević, the court delivered a guilty verdict despite what he described as inconsistencies in the alleged victim’s testimony over time.
„After the war, she claimed there had been an attempted rape. Twenty-five years later, she changed her statement and accused Živojin Nešić of rape,“ Delević told KoSSev.
The defense lawyer also stated that Nešić had lived in North Mitrovica continuously since the end of the war, and that from the beginning of the proceedings, he consistently denied knowing the alleged victim or having any connection to the incident in question.
Delević announced plans to appeal the decision, together with fellow defense lawyer Ljubomir Pantović.
Nešić was arrested last year, on March 4th, in Kolašinska Street in North Mitrovica. The charges relate to a war crime committed in 1999 in Vucitrn.
