The well-known illuminated sign „Kosovska Mitrovica“ in Cyrillic, a recognizable landmark at the entrance to North Mitrovica, was taken down today.
Despite heavy rain and poor weather conditions, workers were seen dismantling the installation on site.
It remains unclear on whose order the action was carried out. However, according to KoSSev’s unofficial sources, the removal was conducted at the instruction of the Municipality of North Mitrovica.
KoSSev reached out to the municipality for comment, but no response had been received by the time of publication.
The Kosovo Police confirmed that they did not take part in the operation, but patrol units were observed circling the area and passing through nearby streets on several occasions.
The sign’s removal comes just days ahead of the local elections scheduled for October 12.
