The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has removed Kosovo from its list of conflict-affected and fragile areas, the Central Bank of Kosovo (CBK) announced on Thursday morning.
In an official statement, the CBK expressed “deep gratitude” to the IMF, interpreting the move as recognition of Kosovo’s institutional progress and improved financial stability.
“The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK) expresses its deep gratitude to the IMF for this important recognition of Kosovo’s institutional advancement and macro-financial stability,” the statement reads.
The most recent document published by the IMF confirms that Kosovo is no longer included on the list, which currently comprises 17 countries categorized as conflict-affected or fragile.
While Kosovo is still listed under “institutionally and socially fragile” regions, the CBK emphasized that the change in classification reflects “a better international perception of Kosovo.”
CBK also added that the update is expected to boost investor confidence, reduce financial risk assessments, and improve access to development financing and private capital.
The announcement comes just a week after the World Bank also removed Kosovo from its list of conflict-affected and fragile situations.
