Haradinaj Calls on MPs to Implement Constitutional Court Ruling and End Institutional Deadlock

Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), has called on all members of parliament, regardless of political affiliation, to implement the recent decision of the Constitutional Court and pave the way for the formation of the Assembly and institutions stemming from the February 2025 parliamentary elections.

His appeal follows today’s ruling by the Constitutional Court, which upheld a request filed in May by Haradinaj’s AAK party, in consultation with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).

The ruling imposes a constitutional obligation on MPs to complete the constitutive session of the new legislature within 30 days.

“In a situation of complete institutional paralysis — including the failure to constitute the Assembly, which is unheard of in democratic societies — we sought a way out through the Constitutional Court of Kosovo,” Haradinaj stated.

“We did not do this out of party interest of the country and in respect of the will expressed in the February 2025 elections. We did not turn this request into a political issue or goal.”

He noted that since submitting the request on May 12, the parties refrained from speculating on the outcome, “choosing not to interfere with the Court’s decision.”

Still, Haradinaj acknowledged a sense of relief following today’s ruling.

„We cannot help but express relief that the Constitutional Court accepted AAK’s request for interpretation and resolution, establishing a legal basis for overcoming the deadlock.“

He reiterated his call to fellow lawmakers:

“I take this opportunity to urge all MPs, regardless of political or party affiliation, to implement this ruling of the Constitutional Court and open the path for constituting the Assembly and forming the institutions that stem from the latest parliamentary elections.”
