Kosovo Police in the northern region are investigating yet another case of sexual harassment, following a report of sexist remarks directed at a minor on a promenade in North Mitrovica. The incident reportedly occurred near the Heb’s establishment around 12:15 PM.
According to the father of the minor, a Serbian national whose identity is known to the editorial team, an unidentified man allegedly made inappropriate comments to his daughter. The girl, accompanied by her parents, subsequently filed a report with the local police.
Petrit Fejza, a representative of the northern Kosovo Police, confirmed the report to KoSSev.
„The minor was with her family when she informed us that a man had directed sexist remarks toward her,“ said Fejza.
Upon receiving the complaint, officers arrived at the promenade and located the individual in question. The man was brought to the police station for questioning, and the investigation is currently underway. Fejza noted that the suspect is an adult but declined to disclose his nationality.
„We can confirm that one person is a victim, and another is a suspect. We are now examining the situation to determine the facts,“ he added.
Rising Concerns Over Harassment Incidents
Reports of sexist remarks and harassment targeting women and younger girls have been increasing on the streets of North Mitrovica, as indicated by both media accounts and reports from non-governmental organizations in northern Kosovo.
While this incident marks the latest in a series, it is not an isolated case. Previous complaints have predominantly involved Serbian women or girls accusing Albanian men from the southern part of the city.
Just days before this incident, a local resident identified as K.M. from North Mitrovica reported to the police that she and her friend were harassed by men in a car who made sexist remarks and insulted them.
Following these incidents, Aleksandar Arsenijević, the leader of the Serbian Democracy movement, has called for the formation of a „Neighborhood Watch“ group in North Mitrovica.
„We are witnessing an increasing number of attacks, harassment, and the presence of sexual predators in our city. We can no longer remain silent—it is time to organize,“ Arsenijević stated, urging citizens to join the patrol regardless of ethnicity, religion, or gender.
