First liturgy served in church in Rakinica since Xhufka’s break-in

The first liturgy was served yesterday in the Church of the Saint Archangel Michael in Rakinica near Podujevo since Nikolla Xhufka, claims to be an Orthodox priest, broke into the church along with a group of people, where he announced that he founded the „Albanian National Church“ and changed the name of this SOC site.

“Representatives of the Raska-Prizren Diocese first performed a re-consecration of the desecrated church and then served the Holy Liturgy,” the Diocese said in a statement.
The Abbot of Visoki Decani, Sava Janjić, and a local priest Staniša Arsić, gave the liturgy.

In his sermon, Father Sava expressed hope that this church, like all other SOC sites in the area, would be respected and protected from further desecration, as it is the role of our Church to spread respect among all citizens in this area, and to look after its heritage.

During the service, representatives of a EULEX monitoring team, a Carabinieri patrol working with EULEX, and the Kosovo Police were present outside the church.

The event proceeded peacefully, the Diocese revealed.

An ethnic Albanian, Nikolla Xhufka, who claims to be an Orthodox priest, together with a group of people, entered the church of St. Archangel Michael in the village of Rakinica near Podujevo on November 28th, announcing that he founded the “Albanian National Church“ and changed the name of this religious SOC site.

This act represents a blatant assault on the property of the Serbian Orthodox Church, aimed at fostering ethnic and religious hatred and instability, the Diocese of Raska-Prizren reacted at the time, stating once again that Xhufka is a “fraudulent priest“ who actually broke into the church along with a group of individuals. The Diocese also said it will be filing a criminal complaint.

Yesterday, however, Diocese expressed concern that the Kosovo Police in Podujevo refused to accept the Diocese’s criminal complaint regarding “the break-in and desecration at the church and to conduct an investigation against the self-proclaimed clergymen,” on two occasions – December 1st and December 5th.

The diocese, through its lawyer, attempted to submit the criminal complaint to the police in the presence of the EULEX monitoring team.

“The Kosovo Police refused to accept the criminal complaint, although they are obliged to do so under the laws of Kosovo, which constitutes a serious breach of the law, a matter that has been notified to all international representatives in Kosovo.”
