“If in other parts of Serbia someone is protesting and dividing people on a political or other basis, there is simply no place for that here. The people are decisively opposed to that here, and political profiteers and manipulators, whether from the Djilas’ Alliance for Serbia, Jeremic’s, whosever – let them bypass Kosovska Mitrovica because, there is no going back from here, this is a Serbian area, not an area for divisions,” the head of the Kosovo Office, Marko Djuric told Prva TV this morning.
Djuric is currently visiting the north of Kosovo and sending messages to the public of „the concord and unity“ of Serbs in North Mitrovica, as well as, on the other hand, „to many who, perhaps on the inside, want to see Serbs in Kosovo divided, in which they will not succeed.“ He also talked about the 141 projects, and others, as he claimed, Serbia’s large investments in Kosovo. Djuric is currently visiting the spa complex in Banjska in the company of Bishop Teodosije.
The communication between the Bishop and this official, that is, church representatives and the authorities, deteriorated last summer after the Bishop publicly opposed the idea of the ethnic partition of Kosovo and warned of the danger of the exodus of Serbian people. This is also the first time in several months that the two of them have been seen together in public.
„Our representatives here showed that they are able to fight for our people and not allow them to be folklore,“ he praised Srpska Lista and explained how and in what way it did not allow for the people to be „folklore“.
„They resigned, they left the institutions and they are also fighting on the streets. You saw a month of protests,“ Djuric stated. He also mentioned that 2,000 women protested in North Mitrovica and marched “against the taxes and oppression of Serbs.”
They intend to „continue with this, to continue with institutional and non-institutional methods of fighting for Serbian rights,“ Djuric emphasized, adding that they „will have our support in that.“ Nor are they afraid of new Kosovo elections – he stated.
„They do not dread anything“ – he described the champions of Srpska Lista.
On the other hand, according to Djuric, there are those who do not have the virtues of Srpska Lista:
„Many, unfortunately, want to abuse from the inside, to take advantage of this suffering that we have here. Many who never came, who never came here to support the Serbian people in the protests against the taxes, never came to say anything in the defense of the Serbs, but those who set up those crossings at Jarinje and Brnjak 8 or 9 years ago are now trying to divide Serbs here in Kosovska Mitrovica and elsewhere, and I have to say that I saw the resolve of the people to oppose it.“
„You have to understand, there are many, on the other hand, and – if you want, maybe some on the inside, who would like to see Serbs here in Kosovo and Metohija crushed, politically, and divided. That will not happen. People here know very well that unity is a question of survival, and that we cannot afford the luxury of the division to ourselves, and these were the messages of both President Vucic and Serbian representatives at yesterday’s meeting. Serbia is standing behind our people here with unity and solidarity,“ explained Djuric.
Such messages, as well as Djuric’s three-day visit of the north of Kosovo, arrive ahead of the announcement that North Mitrovica will organize a protest walk of citizens against violence, media censorship and false reporting, but also the policy pursued by the current government of Serbia and President Aleksandar Vucic on Sunday, thus joining 26 towns in Serbia which have already done so. One of the constant demands of the protestors is to find out who killed and ordered the murder of Oliver Ivanovic. The Serbian government and President Aleksandar Vucic do not support these protests. Marko Djuric complained to Serbian viewers this morning that he could not find the daily press. „Because here there has not been any in the Serbian language for two months,“ he said.
„The taxes must go away, they have to be abolished in order to get the situation somewhat back to normal, so that we can have the basic preconditions to discuss the future of the Serbs and Albanians. Everyone who feels that there is a future for the Albanians and Serbs with no sort of conversation, without some kind of normality in relations, is wrong, and in order to talk about it, there must be some basic assumptions,“ Djuric added.
