With its politics, Srpska Lista drove more young people away from Zubin Potok than the political and security situation did, the only opposition councilor in the Zubin Potok municipality and representative of the civic initiative „Za Zubin Potok“, Milija Bisevac, said in an interview for the Kossev portal.
According to Bisevac, people live on a knife-edge because „they don’t know what will happen next“.
Special Kosovo police force bases were built in Brnjak and Jasenovik in Zubin Potok, with the expropriation of private property, while regular maritime police patrols were established on Lake Gazivode, as well as a special rapid response border police unit, Bisevac told KoSSev.
Bisevac reveals that on March 21st, his civic initiative requested that Mayor Srdjan Vulovic address the citizens concerning the daily patrolling of special forces in the area. Furthermore, they reached out to Minister Goran Rakic, who „could ask Prime Minister“ Albin Kurti why he is deploying special force units.
The only reply we received from the mayor was they have no say in it and that they were not informed, Bisevac says.
„They search citizens while armed with firearms, which is not normal in a democratic society. It would be fine if it were regular police, there are police stations, border police, who regularly carry out checks, but now we have a situation where it is done with firearms, Hummers, and heavy machinery,“ this councilor said.
In his words, there is an ongoing effort to portray Zubin Potok and the north as a criminalized area, even though „people here just want to live in peace“, and the Kosovo authorities used the attacks on the police in the north as an excuse to build special force bases.
The police should protect citizens and act as per what was agreed in Brussels – he adds.
According to Bisevac, the wrongdoings of the Pristina government and the pressures that the ruling Srpska Lista places on the people resulted in the departure of Serbs from this region.
„With its politics, Srpska Lista drove away more young people from Zubin Potok than the political and security situation did,“ Bisevac said.
The personnel policy in the area of employment is non-transparent, people who do not live in Kosovo get jobs, while locals with their families remain jobless, he concluded.
