Kosovo Minister of Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, announced the construction and renovation of houses of ethnic Albanians in the north yesterday. In response to KoSSev’s inquiry as to why only the houses of ethnic Albanians are part of the project, and not of other communities, the advisor to the North Mitrovica mayor, Visar Syla, specified that the houses in question were reportedly torched in 1999.
„Very good news that has already started on the right path – Construction and renovation of houses of Albanians in the North of Kosovo,“ said Aliu.
This minister added that all steps have already been taken to start the construction of ten houses in the north of Kosovo.
He said that he met with the families and occupants of these houses in the office of the mayor of North Mitrovica, Erden Atic, and that they visited the planned construction sites.
This minister did not specify when the construction of houses will begin, or in which locations.
On the other hand, it specified that the construction is divided into three sections.
The first is the construction of 10 houses, which, he says, is on the right track. The second provides for the construction of 11 houses, and the third for the renovation of four houses.
Once again, Aliu did not specify where and when the houses would be built.
On the other hand, he stated that it is expected that the procedures for the other two sections will be completed soon and that the project as a whole would be realized as soon as possible.
Regarding the allegations about the meeting with families – future owners of houses in the municipality of North Mitrovica, the KoSSev portal reached out to the adviser of the mayor Erdan Atic, Visar Syla.
We asked Syla to elaborate on the details of the works themselves, but also why the construction and renovation of houses is only carried out for citizens of Albanian ethnicity, and not for other communities in the north of Kosovo.
In response, Syla said that – within this project – houses are being rebuilt which, as he claims, were set on fire during the war in 1999. He also announced future projects of renovation and construction of houses.
„A significant number of houses will be renovated in North Mitrovica. The houses that will be built right now are for citizens whose houses were torched during the war in 1999, and which have not been rebuilt for 24 years. In the following period, future projects are planned in which houses will be renovated and built for the population in our town,“ he concluded.
