A member of the AKR party and Bahtiri’s party colleague, Fatmir Matoshi said that Bahtiri proposed this initiative „as an individual“ and that the party did not talk about it.
„As a party, we have not talked about it, I cannot say whether we support or oppose it,“ Matoshi said, adding that it would be good to hold a meeting and hear what others think.
Bahtiri’s initiative to merge the two municipalities, despite the sensitivity of the Mitrovica issue and the internationally accepted agreements on two separate municipalities, arrives in the midst of the latest tensions following an increase of customs tax on Serbian products to 100% and arrests in North Mitrovica, which turned out to be related to the investigation into the murder of Oliver Ivanovic, the announcement that Srpska Lista Vice-President, Milan Radoicic is the fourth suspect who is still at large and the resignations of four Kosovo mayors and their statements that the Kosovo municipal administrations ceased to exist in the North.
