The work in the ten municipalities with a Serb majority has been more transparent and better in the last year since Srpska Lista won the election in these municipalities with support from Belgrade, the citizens say, claims the director of the NGO „New Social Initiative“ from North Mitrovica, Jovana Radosavljevic said, summarized their latest survey. The highest visibility is present in infrastructure projects. Citizens in the ten municipalities have the highest trust in their mayors and the lowest in the municipal officials because these officials are not trained enough to work in the new system – she told RTS. „There is a positive trend, but it is insufficient – only half of the respondents feel that information is available to them,“ Radosavljevic explains.
This NGO conducted a survey on “ ife in the province, the relationship between the authorities and citizens“, RTS reported. It is in fact: „Attitudes of citizens and civil society organizations on the work of local self-governments: The case of ten municipalities with a Serb majority in Kosovo“ conducted in cooperation with „CSD – Communication for Social Development“ and with the support of the Kosovo Foundation for Open Society.
Positive trend and only half of the respondents
„Research conducted over the past six months has shown a positive trend when it comes to informing citizens about the work of their local governments,“ Radosavljevic says.
„Not only that,“ she adds, „the number of people who are interested in learning and getting more information about the work of their municipalities has improved“.
„This is still an insufficient number,“ she added, because „only half of the respondents“ believe that information from the municipalities is available to the citizens.
When asked about trust and whether it is built by providing information, Radosavljevic replied: „Partly, yes“.
She recalled that Srpska Lista, with the support of Belgrade, won the election in all ten municipalities and that this research only covered a year of their mandate.
„It shows that citizens believe that the work of municipalities is generally more transparent and better,“ Radosavljevic said, however, she repeated that an „insufficient number of citizens believe in this“.
„It’s important to emphasize that there is a positive trend,“ she said.
All respondents believe that the greatest visibility is present in infrastructure projects and on the question to whom do they trust the most, Radosavljevic said:
„They have the highest trust in their mayors and the lowest in the municipal officials because they believe that these officials are not trained enough to work in the new system, they have insufficient working conditions, while municipalities generally suffer from shortages, especially in the field of human resources.“
Municipalities are citizens’ services, only „methods of communication vary“ from one municipality to another
How much are municipalities the citizens’ services, RTS correspondent Andrija Igic asked the director of the NGO „New Social Initiative“.
„Respondents believe that they are,“ she replied and explained in more detail: „Of course, the methods of communication vary from one municipality to another“.
Radosavljevic said that citizens in municipalities south of Ibar often use the official websites of municipalities to inform themselves about their work.
The survey will be presented tomorrow at 10 am in the CEC premises in NorthMitrovica.
