
Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj sent a letter to the ambassadors in Kosovo. He claims that he provided access to documentation to the former special prosecutor Elez Blakaj during his investigation of the „false veterans“ of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army. Haradinaj also made accusations against Blakaj.
“This letter shows our commitment to rule of law, without interference and full independence… because of all these efforts, it is my personal belief and commitment that every case, including the case that Mr. Blakaj used to work on, should be independently investigated and the justice institution shall work free from any interference. Unfortunately, individuals like Mr. Blakaj, while manifesting false protagonism with attacks against our rule of law through the media, attempted to jeopardize efforts to strengthen the rule of law system in Kosovo,” Haradinaj wrote.
He also sent his official correspondences with Blakaj to the ambassadors.
However, he is already being criticized.
As the letter states that Blakaj should have submitted a report to Haradinaj after 30 days of the investigation, Ehat Miftaraj from the Kosovo Law Institute estimated that it is „the biggest scandal that the judiciary can handle.“
He also pointed out that what is even more worrying is that the Kosovo Prime Minister has a legal adviser who has enabled him to defend himself with a document that „documents influence and interference in the investigation of the case“.
Haradinaj had previously called prosecutor Blakaj ‘a hens thief’ and ‘a coxcomb’. A protest was organized in Pristina yesterday following Blakaj’s claims that he received threats and that he was pressured by his superiors and court officials due to his investigation into the case of over 19.000 false veterans.
