As previously announced, Kosovo’s acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, laid the cornerstone for the construction of a new police station in the northern Serb-majority municipality of Zubin Potok.
Sveçla was joined at the ceremony by acting Minister of Local Government Administration Elbert Krasniqi, the current mayor Izmir Zeqiri, and Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police for the North region, Veton Elshani.
Speaking at the site, Sveçla said the new station would serve both police officers and the local community.

“This modern station will be essential infrastructure for our police officers, as well as a source of security and a reporting address for all citizens without distinction,” Sveçla stated. “We are adding the best infrastructure to the highest level of security. We remain committed to preserving the safety of our citizens, public order, and, without a doubt, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.”
The investment is valued at over one million euros, with a planned construction timeline of 365 days.
Since October last year, the Kosovo Police in Zubin Potok have been operating out of temporary container units placed near the local “Jovan Cvijić” elementary school. Prior to that, the station was housed in a private residence.
The new facility will be built on the very site where the temporary containers now stand. These units will be removed, and until construction is completed, officers will operate out of a building formerly used by the forestry company “Srbijašume,” which was taken over by Kosovo authorities earlier.
Later today, a similar ceremony will be held in Mitrovica for the construction of two new bridges.
