Kosovo police announced on Saturday that they tried to stop a vehicle in Suvi Do due to the suspicion that it was used to transport drugs. The driver refused to pull over, hitting an officer with his car, after which the KP opened fire. The suspect, however, fled the scene on foot. The Kosovo Office reacted on the same day, accusing the KP of excessive use of force and being “easy on the trigger.”
The police of the region north told KoSSev that they tried to pull over a vehicle in Suvi Do due to the suspicion that it contained narcotics.
Deputy Commander of the Kosovo Police, Veton Elshani, told KoSSev that officers signalled to the driver to stop, but he refused to do so, „He didn’t stop, he hit a policeman and a police vehicle,“ he said.
The suspect continued to drive the vehicle, while the police officers opened fire.
Elshani specifies that, according to the regulations of the Kosovo Police, if a person hits an officer’s vehicle, it is interpreted as having used a weapon.
In the meantime, he stopped and fled the scene on foot, adds Elshani. He specified that no one was injured or arrested.
However, he states that the police officers have information about the identity of the suspect, as well as that they found narcotics in the vehicle.
The same allegations were confirmed in the meantime by the Central Directorate of the KP, specifying that they found between 1.5 and 2 kg of marijuana.
The Kosovo Office reacted on Saturday night, accusing the KP of excessive use of force.
„With today’s action in the densely populated part of Kosovska Mitrovica, the Kurti police once again demonstrated the excessive use of force in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, with the sole aim of intimidation and carrying out terror against the Serbian people,“ announced the Kosovo Office.
„The fact is that Kurti’s squadrons are easy on the trigger whenever they find themselves in Serbian areas, so they fired shots that ended up in the houses, buildings and windows of Serbian families.“
At the same time, the Office claims that „these are deliberate provocations, which bring additional unrest and raise tensions in the north of Kosovo, which international representatives must be aware of.“
